PROJECT REVEAL: Kitchen + Mudroom and Laundry room

This full-scale kitchen, pantry, mudroom, and laundry room remodel was an absolute labor of love. Today’s post is dedicated to the combination pantry, mudroom + laundry area, both of which prove that function and style can go hand-in-hand.

Inspiration & Space Planning

Through the course of our work, we’ve found inspiration often comes in many unexpected forms, and the inspiration for this particular project originally came from a travel photo. During a trip to the south of France, we came across a winery featuring the most incredible interplay of colors, textures, and lighting and knew it was the perfect launching point for this kitchen.

Needs & Wishes

Bringing distinctly European aesthetic to this once outdated space, the vision was to carry that same notion throughout the entire project—mudroom and laundry areas included. Layout constraints were a significant consideration as we began to embark on this portion of the project. This function-driven, catch-all space, which connects to the home through a side entry, needed to include a double washer and dryer, ample storage space, and an oversized tub and sink to allow for washing sports equipment and the family’s dog, PJ. Of course, incorporating all of the above into tight square footage was no small task, but with a good amount of creative problem solving, we were able to present, tweak, and ultimately perfect a layout solution that our clients truly loved.

Curated Selection

Honing in on final selections for this space allowed us to work with so many incredible vendors we’ve come to know and love. From the terra cotta flooring to lighting lighting, furniture, and accessories, we sought out several one-of-a-kind pieces made in France. Each vendor went above and beyond to provide the lasting quality and style we needed.

There are few features we love more than a walk-in kitchen pantry, so we decided to get creative by taking a portion of the garage storage area. By pushing the back wall 18 inches into the oversized garage, we were able to buy square footage and also accommodate a full feature wall for the cooking and prepping adjacent to the pantry.

Details in Design

Seeing this project come to life is a reminder that remodels always require patience and persistence, but each component of the project comes together in the end. We’re firm believers that there’s no such thing as minor details in design, and honing in on each decision— both big and small—always results in a space that strikes the right balance of beauty and function.‍
